Main Office

Rude. Nasty. "Know it all". Impatient, yet slow. And the worst part is that he does not care to make the client happy if it interferes with his "vision" for the project. This elderly man becomes a petulant child when his "vision" is challenged. For context, we purchased a home designed by Paul Cate and engaged him to help us add our personal touches to the house and property-- very simple stuff-- and although he agreed with a few of our changes, he also already decided what it needed to look like. For example, we have dogs and need a retaining wall installed within my HOA's very 'laxed' rules. He decided on a very industrial looking grid fencing (photo example included) and when we asked for another option, we got a big fat NO... ...It did not end there... He was ok with quitting this job over it, insisted that my elderly mother had 2-3 hours to circle the neighborhood, take pictures of approved fencing and return to his office right after with a decision or he was effectively quitting this job. The audacity of a man who received a signed contract over a month ago-- did not start working on it until several emails pleading-- required an in-person meeting to see if any progress had been made at all-- and we were met with such utter disrespect and anger over work he had not even started. It was as if he put 10 hours into this and suddenly a big change order came in-- that was not the case. He was terminated from this project, with urgency, since I was genuinely disturbed by his attitude and demands on my disabled mom. A word of advice for those who choose to work with Paul, you better love stained glass, cause I have a feeling that the fray began when I turned down incorporating his wife's stained glass in my modern home... If you read this Paul, we ask that you stop "checking on the house" and no it does not need a new paint job, you may need new glasses tho.
